Bachelor of Applied Science in Entomology and Parasitology with Honours at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) is a specialised programme that focuses on the biology of insects and parasites and their roles in the transmission of diseases and pathogens.
The programme provides students with in-depth knowledge of structure and function, life cycles, ecology, vector behaviour, and parasite biology, supporting a comprehensive understanding of disease epidemiology and effective control strategies. Emphasis is placed on the management of pests of public health and economic importance—including insects, rodents, termites, and cockroaches—with a strong focus on the application of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approaches relevant to the pest management industry.
In addition, the programme incorporates applied components of medical and veterinary parasitology, equipping students with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to understand parasite infections and contribute to disease prevention, control, and applied research.
