The Doctor of Philosophy in Statistics (by Research) at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) is a postgraduate research degree designed for students who want to develop advanced expertise in statistical theory, methods, and applications. It is offered through the School of Mathematical Sciences, where candidates undertake independent, original research under academic supervision.
The degree can be pursued on a full-time or part-time basis, with a minimum study duration of around four semesters (full-time) and a maximum of ten semesters, depending on the progress and research requirements.
Upon completion, graduates are prepared for careers in academia, research institutions, industry, government agencies, and other sectors where advanced statistical analysis, modelling, and data-driven decision-making are essential.
