The Master of Science in Chemical Instrumentation (Mixed Mode) at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) is designed to provide advanced training in modern chemical instrumentation and analytical techniques. The programme covers a wide range of topics including atomic and molecular spectroscopy, separation techniques, surface and thermal analysis, as well as environmental pollution and monitoring methods.
Emphasis is placed on understanding the fundamental principles underlying each technique, complemented by hands-on experience in operating advanced analytical instruments. The programme also includes a course in quality control in chemistry. In addition to coursework, students are required to undertake a short research project and submit a dissertation based on their findings, integrating theoretical knowledge with practical research skills.
