Master of Science in Applied Parasitology at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) is a postgraduate programme that integrates both medical and veterinary parasitology, with a strong focus on applied research and disease control strategies affecting humans and animals.
The programme offers research opportunities in malaria epidemiology and vector bionomics, particularly in malaria-prone regions such as Perak along the Malaysia–Thailand border. In veterinary parasitology, emphasis is placed on trichostrongylid nematodes in ruminants, including studies on their biology, distribution, and drug efficacy in local goat and sheep populations in northern Peninsular Malaysia.
Additional research includes the development and evaluation of innovative control methods such as medicated urea molasses blocks (MUMB) for managing nematode infections. Overall, the programme equips students with practical and research skills to address parasitic diseases of medical and veterinary importance through field-based and laboratory investigations.
