Master of Science in Biotechnology at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) is a dynamic and interdisciplinary postgraduate programme that focuses on the application of cellular and molecular systems in industry, research, and service sectors. It integrates knowledge from microbiology, biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology, chemistry, and chemical and process engineering to address modern biotechnological challenges.
The programme provides both theoretical and practical training in advanced biotechnological techniques while strengthening students’ understanding of cellular biology at the molecular level. Students are exposed to gene structure and regulation studies as well as various applied research areas in cellular systems.
USM offers state-of-the-art research facilities, including automated DNA sequencing systems, electron microscopes, protein crystallography tools, and fermentation systems. Current research also includes investigations into plant and animal cell culture techniques, supporting diverse applications in biotechnology and life sciences.
