Master of Science in Marine Sciences at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) is a multidisciplinary postgraduate programme focused on the study of marine and coastal ecosystems, including sandy beaches, rocky shores, coral reefs, mangroves, estuaries, and the open sea. The programme emphasizes understanding the structure, processes, and dynamics of these ecosystems in relation to both biotic and abiotic factors.
Students explore the ecological and economic significance of marine environments while gaining practical experience in field sampling, ecosystem inventory, and laboratory-based measurement techniques. The programme also develops an understanding of organismal adaptations across diverse marine habitats and addresses current environmental threats caused by human activities, along with strategies for mitigation and conservation.
In addition, the programme includes aspects of marine organism cultivation for food production and other valuable products, contributing to sustainable use and management of marine resources.
