The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) program in Electrical Engineering at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia is a full research program. The standard duration of full-time study is 3.5 years (7 semesters), with a maximum allowable period of 8 years (16 semesters). Ph.D. candidates are assigned a graduate faculty lecturer as their supervisor, or a panel of lecturers may fulfill this role. It is also possible for co-supervisors from the industry to be involved in the supervision process. Prospective graduate students are advised to adequately prepare themselves in the fundamental subject matter required for advanced work and other relevant fields of study. This preparation will enable them to conduct high-quality research and successfully complete their programs. The program's educational objectives include acquiring mastery of knowledge and competence in advanced areas of the electrical engineering field, demonstrating professionalism and adhering to high ethical standards within organizations and society, and being responsive to changing situations by continuously acquiring new knowledge and skills.

Students are required to register and pass the following courses

  • Research Methodology course (course code UKEP0010), to be taken once during study. Students are advised to take this course in the first semester of study.
  • One University Elective Course (course code U*** ***3), to be taken once during study.
  • Research (course code PKEE **00), to be taken every semester until the submission of thesis. The progress of a candidate in any particular semester is assessed through research progress reports submitted at the end of each semester.
