The Doctor of Philosophy (Umum) at UTM University Malaysia is a research-only qualification tailored for students aiming to pursue academic or research careers. This degree is awarded based on the submission of a thesis that demonstrates the candidate's ability to conduct research independently and with originality

The thesis must also reflect a significant contribution to knowledge within a specific field, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared for advanced roles in academia and research institutions.

Entry Requirements

A Master’s Degree from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia or any other Institutions of higher learning recognised by the Senate.

Each student is required to register for a research course every semester, starting from the current semester. Additionally, students must enroll in compulsory subjects such as Research Methodology and any university elective subjects, subject to approval from UTM SPS. In the third semester, students must undergo the first stage evaluation before proceeding with their studies.
