The Master of Science (Geoinformatics) program at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia is a core course designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the theory and principles of geospatial information science and technology (GI S&T), as well as fundamental skills in utilizing Geographic Information System (GIS) software. The course covers a wide range of topics, including maps and their characteristics, the comparison between conventional mapping, digital mapping, and GIS, concepts of geospatial data, digital data storage, computer software, GIS subsystems, geospatial data models and structures, data conversion, coordinate systems, height data manipulation, accuracy of geospatial data, GIS working components, implementation issues, and GIS system procurement. By gaining knowledge and proficiency in these areas, students will be well-equipped to leverage GIS technology and contribute to the field of geoinformatics.
