The Bachelor of Science in Physics program at Xiamen University Malaysia is supported by the College of Physical Science and Technology at the main campus of Xiamen University in China. This college includes the Department of Physics and the Department of Astronomy, featuring faculty members such as adjunct academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, as well as senior and junior experts with prestigious titles. The Department of Physics engages in diverse research areas, focusing on cutting-edge topics like condensed matter physics, statistical physics, and biophysics, while also promoting interdisciplinary collaboration. Meanwhile, the Department of Astronomy maintains strong partnerships with the Shanghai Astronomical Observatory and the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
The Physics program at Xiamen University Malaysia offers a distinctive interdisciplinary educational experience that reflects the best practices of leading global universities. It is tailored to meet the needs and aspirations of young graduates, preparing them for the modern era of change by providing a solid foundation in scientific knowledge, a spirit of inquiry, and a passion for learning and work. The program also promotes international exposure and fosters a collaborative network with the broader physics community from both the East and the West.
Students will spend the first two years receiving rigorous foundational training in mathematics, classical mechanics, electrodynamics, thermodynamics, and quantum mechanics. In the subsequent two years, they will have the flexibility to choose courses in physics (including astrophysics) or other disciplines such as engineering, finance, and humanities. Additionally, the program includes one semester dedicated to undergraduate research and another semester for a research internship, culminating in a final year thesis.
